TIPS AND IDEAS
Would you buy a house without looking at it? Always attempt to either check your contractors references or see previous
work that has been done. Sometimes cheaper savings today won't save the headaches of tomorrow.
We as homeowners understand the costs involved in home improvement projects. If you receive an estimate lower than
ours, discuss it with us and we will make every attempt to either re-negotiate our fee or explain to you why there is a
difference in price. Where some contractors cut corners on materials used, we pride ourselves on using high grade
products, e.g. 6 bag mix concrete minimum for patios.
We recommend sealing a concrete driveway to avoid complete saturation of oil stains.
NEVER put salt on your concrete during winter months. We recommend the use of sand.
It is not a good idea to use rebar in a patio. Rebar is meant for reinforcement for much thicker concrete, e.g.,
Foundations. When rebar is applied in a base of 5 inches of concrete, this will weaken the areas directly above the rebar
and produce unwanted cracks.
New Construction Tip: It takes some time for land of new construction to settle. If you are installing a patio, be sure
that your contractor digs down to clay. If a patio sits on top of backfill, the ground hasn't settled and can cause your
patio to shift.
Freshly poured concrete:
Patios-Although the concrete has hardened and you can walk on it....Do not place furniture on the patio for at least 72
hours. This is especially important if the furniture, grill, etc. has a metal base. This can unintentionally scratch the
surface of the concrete.
Driveways-Don't forget to call the village for overnight parking on the street. We recommend that you refrain from
parking your vehicles on a newly poured driveway for a minimum of 5 days.
Stamped/Colored Concrete-We recommend that colored concrete be sealed. This will bring out the color you've chosen
and keep a glossy appearance. Remember that the sun bleaches color, this will protect from extreme weathering.
